Structural Analysis

MEI’s approach to tower structural analysis is to provide a thorough, accurate, and timely analysis with a report that will provide a practical interpretation to the structural analysis results.

Available documentation on the subject tower is reviewed (Field mapping may be performed in case of non-availability or to supplement missing data). A rigorous, comprehensive analysis is performed using the state-of-the-art technology in conformance with the ANSI/TIA 222 Standard.

MEI's comprehensive report, which has set the standard for the industry, includes the summary of analysis findings, recommendations, and a comprehensive analysis model printout with graphical result diagrams and a profile drawing listing the antennae loads considered and the tower geometry.

Strengthening Modification Design

After MEI performs the structural analysis, as a second phase of the work upon client request, the deficient tower members are strengthened in a variety of methods to increase their support capacity.   MEI offers unique modification solutions gained from years of experience, including a patent pending pole strengthening design.

Our modification designs are easy to install, field adaptable, maintenance friendly, reliable, and cost-effective. Our technical design documentation is comprehensive and complete with all related installation and fabrication requirements for proper implementation of the design.

Aesthetic Structures

MEI has national experience in original and innovative designs of aesthetically pleasing structures. The growth in the wireless industry combined with the resistance of local zoning authorities to the new installation of traditional towers, has caused new antenna sites to be located in high visibility areas such as community retail and residential areas. These sites must meet certain aesthetic requirements and still be able to support multi-tenants with budget considerations.

In locations with restricted zoning and special permitting requirements, as an alternative to traditional structures, a range of special structures that blends more with the locality, such as Flag Poles, Stadium Light Poles, Silos, Church Steeples, with provisions for concealment of the wireless antennae can be designed. MEI is familiar with the demands of new site development and is able to provide our clients with a complete design package within a short turn-around time.

MEI is renowned in the industry for anticipating the construction problems and incorporating field adaptability.

Special Structures

MEI can provide solutions to your unique requirements for the installation of antennas or equipment onto any special structure. As experienced structural engineers, we are qualified to design and analyze existing buildings and structural components for the addition of antennas and equipment loads. Many of our projects are done in conjunction with architectural firms functioning as part of the site acquisition team.

Whether your project involves an aesthetic structure design, Crank-up tower design, wind turbine analysis or design, custom mount design, structural analysis of a watertank, power transmission tower, smoke stack, silo, or church steeple, you can be assured that MEI will be available to provide our experience, knowledge, and technical services to ensure a successful site implementation.

Malouf Engineering International, Inc. (MEI) has been servicing the wind industry for about a decade, and has been involved in the structural design of the support elements for wind turbines. MEI has been mainly focused on small turbines (up to 200 kW) and has worked on larger turbine towers.

Our structural analysis evaluates in addition to the extreme loading conditions, the fatigue stresses and the potential of vibration resonance to ensure that the structure is within the performance limits of the wind turbine. We also provide cost effective designs for the standard foundation limits of the wind turbine.

Our extensive experience in designing telecom towers and our relationships with tower fabricators have proven to be unique and invaluable assets in serving the needs of our renewable energy clients.

MEI Provides the following services for the Wind Inudstry:

  • Pole and Lattice Tower Designs
  • MET Tower Designs
  • Foundation Designs
  • Design Review of Pre-Designed Structures and Foundations
